sugar fast: 3 days down, 4 to go!

Yesterday was SO so hard.... definitely the hardest to "just say no" so chocolate (I swear I could hear those Swiss Rolls calling my name from the Walmart across the street!). Not only was it my anniversary, but for a majority of the evening I was dealing with a crankypants Baby D and Mr. D had to work and I didn't get my endorphins in, since after mutual at the Carl Bloch exhibit (where Baby D discovered how echo-ey the MOA is, and the guards kept trying to shush him) we visited Mr. D at the BYU baseball game and Baby D just had a total meltdown. So by the time I put him to bed at 8:30, all I could think of was this cake Bananas made us last year:
But I stuck to my guns and today doesn't feel so bad... but then again its only 8am. Oh, and to show you my mad cooking skills and make you feel better about yourself (especially Have your way, who had a little burnt cheesecake incident yesterday), here is what happens when I attempt to make Chocolate chip pecan pie (pic from 2008) which I am ALSO craving at the moment, even after looking at this not so delectable picture....
yikes, I know. jealous?

Off to actually have a anniversary celebration (its a secret!) but more on that tomorrow :)

Any tips to help me control the cravings???

I should probably warn you, if you are prone to vomiting at the sight of too much cuteness you may need to stop reading this blog altogether. But especially today, since as of this afternoon, Mr. D and I have officially reached 5 years of wedded bliss.  It took some serious heartbreaks, tears, and otherwise rotten experiences to finally make it to my Mr. D. I'll try not to get too mushy here, but it never ceases to amaze me how much my love for him grows with each passing year. I probably say this every year, but marrying him was the best decision I ever made because he continues to love me and encourage me to be a better person.

Like every marriage, there may be sacrifices or arguments or problems but in the end we love each other and are sealed (together and with Baby D) for time and all eternity. I would have it no other way. Without further ado, in proper Redsoxwife celebration, a photocollage overload is in order. Enjoy...

Love you, poopface!

TTT: 3 year old Kevs, Dolls, Sugar Fast, and BONUS tangent

Yes, its not quite Thursday, but I have a really fun post planned for tomorrow,
so here is your three tangent thursday:
you can read his birth story here. That's like 80 in cat years or something. What an old cranky man. He still drives me crazy sometimes, but since he gets along so well with/is SO patient with Baby D (and keeps him entertained!) then I guess he's a keeper.
Seriously, if you haven't seen the video from my last post, GO.DO.IT.NOW!
Tangent #2: My AMAZING sister, Surah, is leaving me this week to go back home and make money over the summer. I AM SO BUMMED! Why she wouldn't want to stay dirt poor and go running and hang out with me and Baby D all summer by the pool is beyond my realm of understanding. I will miss her SO SO MUCH. She is most def. in my top 2 favorite sisters... LOVE YOU DOLL!! Don't worry, Bananas, we still miss you!
Tangent #3: This Sugar Fast is SO much harder than I thought it would be!! I can't believe how often I eat candy/sugar-related goodies. Pretty much all my dreams now revolve around eating candy, which would be great if A) I lived in CandyLand, or B) I didn't wake up feeling SUPER guilty.

Needless to say, I have been eating/drinking my weight in fruit smoothies (nothing in my smoothies but ACTUAL FRUIT... I'm looking at you, McDonalds-that-puts-an-entire-quart-of-sugar-in-their-so-called-"fruit"-smoothies). I even took some advice on the coconut front, and braved opening the coconut (with some help from my boys!) to add that yummy sweet nectar to my smoothie! Two days down, five to go!

Yeah, we drink straight out of the blender in this house.
Any thing we can do to eliminate more cleanup. OM NOM NOM.
BONUS TANGENT... Mr. D and I have an anniversary tomorrow!!! eek! He has already bought me some AWESOME stuff, like these cute new ADIDAS running shorts (I guess the yoga pants I "trimmed" down to capris with a pair of blunt scissors were losing their appeal), STILLETTOS (!!), and of course my awesomesauce camera without which this blog would be OVER because what is my blog without pictures?? Oh, right, BORING and UNREADABLE :)

Also, I nearly didn't post that middle picture because I swear I look preggers in it (I AM NOT) but its the only good one with the SWEET heels, so it will have to do.

Okay, your turn, tell me THREE TANGENTS about you!!!

wordless wednesday: movie time!

yup, it is true. I am joining the post-holiday-sugar-coma-anonymous club (with Rachelle and Stefanie) going on a "sugar fast" (I'm calling it that because I don't like the phrase "sugar-free"...I cannot stand the thought of eating nasty artificial sweeteners) and probably not for the same reason most people are doing it.

I'm not looking to lose weight or gain some sort of karma-like control over my cravings (although if that happens, I will happily accept it!)... no, I NEED this sugar fast because I NEED my energy back!! More often than not I do not plan my meals and snacks and go for the fastest calorie-filled thing I can toss in my mouth... which is usually something with refined sugars. Then I sugar crash and end up taking just as many naps as my 9 month old (NOT cool when I have stuff to do!). This weekend I realized: this has GOT to stop. It made me wonder WHY I am doing this to myself??

1) I know refined sugars make me lathargic. And I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired! So I'm finally putting my money where my mouth is. And,
2) I cringe at the very thought of giving Baby D refined sugar... so why would I inhale it like it's fresh oxygen 24/7?? I need to be a better example.

I am making the commitment today, that for the next 7 days,
I will abstain from:
(mostly stuff that has SUGAR or some variant listed as the primary/secondary ingredient)
*ALL Candy (specifically starburst jellybeans)
*ALL Chocolate, cookies, cakes, pastries (specifically Swiss Rolls)
*ALL white/refined carbs, pasta, cereal, etc.
*ALL soda (oh wait... I don't drink soda)

Don't you worry, I will still eat PLENTY of sugar...only it will be primarily from fruit instead of Fruit Loops. :) You better believe we will be having LOTS of fruit smoothies in the next week!

You heard it here first. And to make myself accountable, since I was already planning on doing my very FIRST giveaway during the last week of school (May 30th, mark your calendars!), I will add to my (otherwise top-secret) giveaway $1 in cash for every follower I have (34 as of today) for each time I break my anti-sugar-ness over the next week. Long-term, I would LOVE to do this for a month, but since I am someone who can live off of Swiss Rolls for the rest of my life (if given the opportunity), we're starting with SEVEN DAYS. I can do anything for seven days! Right? Baby steps. Speaking of baby steps...
eeek! my half marathon is only WEEKS away and I have YET to do a run more than 6 miles :( This pic was from my last half marathon, Spanish Fork Half back in fall 2009... here's to hoping I look half this happy crossing the finish line at the UV half in 45 DAYS!!!!

I am also secretly hoping that this Sugar Fast will help me run faster???

Am I crazy? We shall see.
I've gone almost a whole 18 hours without sugar so far...Let the Sugar Fast begin!
Anyone else game for joining me?? Everyone's doing it....

so big.

He's crawling ALL over the place, babbling like it's his job, and turning into a little man (with two little nubbins that are STILL working their way in... maybe he will have teeth by his first birthday??)

aaaand the outtakes:

weekend update

To say I have SO much to catch up on is quite the understatement... but that's what happens when you start spring cleaning (which will hopefully go through the next few weekends to get it all done!). So I'll start with the important stuff.

Baby D turned 9 months old! we celebrated by going to a BYU baseball game... Oh I love those eyes.
And hung out with Aunti Concessa
 And Granny and Charlie
And then got some yummy Bountiful baskets :)
OH I love that fridge full of prepped produce
especially with my teething little helper :)
We had a great Easter at Drew and Michelle's...
(Don't worry, he still doesn't put REAL food in his mouth!)
Thanks for the Easter card, Aunti Bananas!!!
Yeah. We had quite an exhausting weekend.

Boston Marathon Monday!!!!!!

"The marathon. How an average runner becomes more than average"

I woke up at 4:30 this morning to realize that either
A) I was only going to be getting 6, not my planned 8 hours of sleep, or
B) Baby D may never again sleep through the night, or
C) We have the most annoying cat in the world. (Do they make bark collars for cats?), or
D) I should have washed some bottles or done some laundry yesterday. My house is a wreck. Or,
E) All of the above.

Fortunately for me, there is nothing better to turn my mood around than realizing today is Marathon Monday and I get to spend my "free time" in between classes checking updates online... :)

Go Kara and Ryan!!!
Thanks to my in-laws for getting me this book!!!!
I can't wait to start reading it while running on the TM tonight :)
And I decided today that I have GOT to get on the homemade bread bandwagon... I am craving some fresh homemade whole wheat bread!! Any recipe suggestions??

And we are THRILLED that Kevs (who disappeared when I flew out last Friday)
finally came home (absolutely filthy covered in dust) last night!!

The rest of our Spring Break in C-bus

After many long hours pondering what we were going to do the last few days in Ohio...
Baby D convinced me that the weather was too nice not to do a lot of running...
while he hung out with Uncle DK (and Mama Astrid),
got some kron family indoctrination, Steve and Joe style... because they're WHO'S CLUES??
got into a LOT of trouble....
Hung out with (second) cousin, BAP! (who adores his "baby D")
And of course fighting with Cousin Faith (only 6 weeks older than him)
over rights to my leg :)
Go ahead and say it... BABIES EVERYWHERE!
Unfortunately, I think this trip has Baby D thinking there are actually toys that exist outside of the tennis balls and Kleenex boxes we usually give him to play with... this could pose a problem.
Carrera Primas and their babies :) HAPPY 27th BIRTHDAY, Cousin Biby!!
On another (semi-related but not really) note, the past few weeks I have been a... well, I suppose the proper word would be BLOGAHOLIC. I was spending so much time blogging daily and reading/stalking/commenting on other people's blogs (which I ADORE reading, by the way!) and it was exhausting me! How do people do it? So I think for the time being I will go back to regular blogging/stalking twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) in addition to any big events of course.

Wow the past week sure has flown by!
